Grab a cup of coffee at local favorite Cafe 53, located just down the street from the hotel.

Fortify yourself for the day with a hearty breakfast at Dawn A.M. Eatery, a stylish diner that serves up Southern classics like salmon croquettes, shrimp and grits, and a creative jambalaya skillet.

Welcome the morning light in the tranquil beauty of the Osaka Garden. An authentic Japanese garden that was gifted to the city during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, this quiet oasis tucked away in Jackson Park displays waterfalls, footbridges, ponds, and cherry blossom trees.

Don’t miss Yoko Ono’s first permanent sculpture in the U.S., Sky Landing, which gleams with 12 stainless steel lotus petals against the park’s leafy backdrop.

Browse the museum’s line-up of creative, interactive exhibits about trains, ships, space and even storms. One of my faves is the Baby Chicks Hatchery, where you get to watch cute balls of yellow fluff be born. The museum’s majestic white building is one of the last remaining buildings from the 1893 World’s Fair.

Wander around a stunning Gothic campusAfterwards, take in the University of Chicago’s many architectural treasures. Drop by the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, built entirely of stone and richly decorated with sculptures. Don’t miss hearing the carillon, which has 72 bells and 100 tons of bronze, making it one of the largest musical instruments ever built.
