Kangerlussuaq, also known as Sonder Stroemfiord, was an American airbase until September 1992 and is Greenland's most important transport hub. The Kangerlussuaq area is home to Greenland's most diverse land-based wildlife, such as muskoxen, caribou and gyrfalcons. It is also a great place to see northern lights during the winter. These two factors make Kangerlussauq a significant tourist center during most of the year.
