Morehead City is famous for fishing and the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, staged over six days in June. The Gulf Stream brings in blue marlin, tarpon and amberjack, in addition to inshore fish. Both onshore and offshore fishing trips are offered here. For those more inclined to window-shop, the nearby waterfront town of Swansboro borders the White Oak River with shops in renovated centuries-old structures. The Mullet Festival is held in Swansboro ever October and is truly a sight to be seen.
