The largest island in the Federated States of Micronesia, Pohnpei Island recently has been tagged as the "Garden Island" of the group. In addition to its lush foliage, Pohnpei Island also boasts Nan Madol, an ancient Venice-like city that is accessed most easily by boat. Monstrous walls will shadow you as you explore the different islets by foot and step into the tombs of the ancient Saudeleur kings, who once ruled from the island. Nature, birding and botany walks will be available in the surrounding forests for those who want to try to catch a glance of the native Pohnpei fantail and the Pohnpei flycatcher.
