Singapore Airlines Economy Class: What to Know
Singapore Airlines Economy Class: What to Know
Jul 27, 2024 11:57 AM

If you want luxury in the skies, there’s arguably no better airline than Singapore Airlines. While the best experience on Singapore is undoubtedly its luxurious Suites class service, most of us can’t afford tens of thousands of dollars or a big heap of points to get our own onboard bedroom.

But don’t be disappointed if you’re booked in Singapore Airlines economy class, as it’s one of the best economy seats you can buy. Here's how to maximize the experience (and get the best value) when you fly Singapore Airlines economy class.

What to expect flying economy with Singapore Airlines

An international economy seat on Singapore Airlines might feel a bit like flying first class with a domestic airline. You get a baggage allowance, a more comfortable seat than most airlines offer in the same ticket class, plus complimentary food and drink options that would put most U.S. carriers to shame.

Here’s what else you can expect when flying Singapore Airlines’ economy class:

Seats: Seats on most international flights are comfortable and include an ergonomic design and six-way headrest. The seats recline, and a high-definition touchscreen is filled with movies and shows to keep you entertained. You can plug your device into the in-seat USB port so you land with full power. On the 737-800, used for shorter flights, you will see a more standard economy seat.

Food and drinks: Consider starting with a signature Singapore Sling cocktail, one of many complimentary beverage selections on long-haul flights. Premium economy passengers can preorder their meal, while regular economy passengers can choose between several high-end menu items. A kids’ menu is available. Singapore also offers meals for religious, vegetarian and special diets.

Baggage allowance: Standard economy tickets include a 66-pound (30 kilogram) checked bag. Those with elite status may qualify for additional luggage at no charge. Value and Lite tickets come with a 55-pound (25 kilogram) limit.

Boarding: When booked in economy, you may be the last to board. However, plan on a lengthy boarding process anyway, particularly for the massive A380 with a 471-passenger capacity.

Service: Customer service from Singapore Airlines is very good. Singapore Airlines economy class gets high marks for service (as well as food, seat comfort, Wi-Fi and more) from international airline rating agency Skytrax.

Ways to get good value from Singapore Airlines economy class

Pay with miles from partner airlines

Singapore Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance, which includes Air Canada, Avianca, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, United and about 20 other carriers. If you have miles with any of those programs, you may be able to redeem them for an award flight on Singapore.

For travelers in the U.S., United MileagePlus is the Star Alliance partner program most likely to get you on a Singapore Airlines jet.
